OUR STORY
Pregnancy and Family Support (PFS) emerged out of a pursuit to collaborate with, inspire and support the more vulnerable community members, as well as a desire for actions to speak louder than words.
PFS was initially established in 1981 to provide free pregnancy related counselling and practical support to expectant parents and families with children under 16 years.
It is an organisation driven by a strong foundation of dedicated volunteers and committee members.
Over the years, PFS has expanded the services it offers and operates with generous community funding, philanthropic and local government assistance.
By providing a welcoming, non-judgemental and caring environment, our staff work alongside clients dealing with the complex challenges of today's society, aiming always, to help in improving their quality of life

At Pregnancy and Family Support Association, we’re supporting initiatives to serve the people who need them most. We believe in taking action with urgency in order to raise public awareness about some of the most pressing issues facing today’s society, including poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, families living with chronic physical illness or mental health difficulties. WHAT WE DO
EMERGENCY RELIEF SUPPORT SERVICES
Our Emergency Relief Program is designed to assist families experiencing significant financial distress, by providing finances when available, to help with basic living expenses, such as:
Food
Rent
Electricity
Fuel
School expenses
Hospital parking
Water rates
Funeral expenses
Travel expenses
Medical expenses
BABY GOODS AND CLOTHING
With our organisation's mission always in mind, we strive to provide each baby with the best start to life as possible. We do this by providing donated baby items, including:

Blankets & wraps
Prams

High chairs
Baby Toys
PREGNANCY & PARENTING
Free counselling and Bulk Billed psychological intervention is available at PFS for a range of issues and difficulties often arising during the perinatal period (conception to 1-year postpartum) and whilst parenting young children.
Therapeutic intervention is available for issues such as:
Unexpected pregnancy
Birth trauma
Anxiety or Depression
Attachment Problems
Relationship adjustment issues
Perinatal and Infant loss
Termination trauma
Child behavioural difficulties
ADHD Coaching
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT & EDUCATION
Our team is constantly working to make a positive impact on the local community. We achieve this by building and maintaining strong relationships with other community agencies and government departments, advocating on consumers behalf and referring when necessary. All people presenting at the agency are provided information about appropriate supports available for their current needs, which may include:
Referral to Domestic Violence services
Advocacy and advice for housing
Seeking schooling for pregnant teens
Knowledge of government entitlement
Referral for Child Care fee relief
Obtaining household items

CORPORATE PACKAGES:
Package 1 - Cost: $500
Your donation will support a family with:
Electricity for a quarterly bill that will avoid disconnection of services which can be incredibly stressful for disadvantaged families. These situations can lead to further distress, as it regularly involves the loss of food staples which is extremely distressing for people already struggling to make ends meet and trying to cope with the escalating cost of living.
Package 2 - Cost: $1000
Your donation will support a family with:
Emergency accommodation for one week and essential items for families fleeing a chronic domestic violence situation and are without any other means of support.
Package 3 - Cost: $1500
Your donation will support a family with:
A deposit towards a homeless family securing a home with their children. Often, the down payments are prohibitive for some clients endeavouring to enter the rental market as the cost of accommodation has escalated dramatically in the community. Having the initial bond and rent can set them up to manage future rental payments.
Package 4 - Cost: $2000
Your donation will support a family with:
Relocation of a family off the Gold Coast, to safe accommodation when fleeing from their perpetrators and are often involved in life threatening situations, incidents of which are escalating at an alarming rate, especially since the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Package 5 - Cost: $2500
Your donation will support a family with:
A deposit to secure rental premises for a homeless family, which is currently at crisis point on the Gold Coast. Families are currently living in their cars with the children and risk the intervention of Child Safety, which often results in the children being forcibly removed, from their care through no fault of their own, under Court Orders. The grief and trauma associated with these situations can lead to chronic mental health deteriorating for all involved, further adding to the critical escalation of suicide ideology for some people unable to cope.
Package 6 - Cost: $3000
Your donation will support a family with:
The costs of a funeral to lay a loved one to rest after a sudden death, particularly in relation to a suicide, the passing of a child or a perinatal loss. This support is often requested from families in grief and distressed at meeting such enormous, unexpected expenses. The most sought-after request for this assistance, has been the result of youngsters, as young as 12 years of age, taking their precious lives as a consequence of being bullied in schools, these incidents are followed closely, by teenagers ranging in age from 15 to 19, of whom we have had to console no less than six families in the past year alone with these heartbreaking situations.

Package 7 - Cost: $ 3500
Your donation will support numerous families with:
With the exorbitant cost of Hospital Parking Fees and fuel, for clients needing to attend crucial antenatal appointments. There have been incidents of pregnant consumers not attending appointments due to lack of funds, with some tragic outcomes, as incidents such as pregnancy diabetes have gone undetected and resulted in stillbirths. The escalation in the cost of fuel is further worsening these problems and is indicative of the problems we are experiencing at the agency on an ongoing basis. Parents with Children requiring critical care such as Chemotherapy, which is often only available in Brisbane, struggle with the cost of fuel travelling to appointments for these treatments, together with the ongoing cost of hospital parking fees.

Our organisation always appreciates the generosity and involvement of people like you, with every contribution going towards making Pregnancy and Family Support Association an even better charity than it already is. We always have a generous supply of toys, baby clothing, blankets, prams, nursery items, etc. which need sorting and delivering. These items are provided to local families in need, as well as emergency response to natural disasters affecting our region.
